The town stands on the Cammarata mountain which is often covered with snow during the winter.
Probably its name dates from the Arab time.
The town grew during the Norman time
The local economy is based mainly on agriculture, cattle-breeding and dairy products
The religious feast dedicated to SS. Crocifisso di Tuvagli occurs in May, while the one dedicated to the local Patron Saint Nicola takes place in December.
The Cheese Fair takes place between the end of September and the beginning of October.
The Mother Church is dedicated to Saint Nicholas from Bari who is the patron Saint of the town and it dates from 1624. It’s rich of interesting paintings and works of art.
The remains of the castle stand on the highest part of the town.
It was built in the 12th century and today it’s the seat of a play school.
